Taking care of healthcare: Why we’ve invested in Tandem Health

Europe needs more care. Yet clinicians can spend up to 40% of their time on admin. With demand growing and teams already stretched, healthcare cannot afford to keep losing so much of its capacity to paperwork. It’s time to help every clinician go further, and give patients more time with their doctors.

‍

That’s why we’ve invested in Tandem Health.

‍

The Problem

Europe’s healthcare maths isn’t adding up. An ageing population needs more care, costs are rising, and health systems are struggling to recruit and retain the people needed to meet demand. Asking the existing workforce to keep doing more is not a sustainable answer.

‍

Part of the problem sits inside the working day. Every consultation brings documentation, coding, referrals and follow-up tasks. These are essential to delivering care, but completing them takes time away from patients and adds to the pressure on clinicians.

‍

Tandem was founded on a simple principle: someone needs to take care of healthcare. Its answer is clinically safe, regulatory-grade AI that clinicians can trust.

‍

‍

‍

The Solution

‍

Tandem’s AI Medical Assistant supports clinicians before, during and after each patient visit. It prepares patient summaries ahead of appointments, provides clinical decision support during consultations, and handles the documentation, coding and task management that follows.

‍

The ambition is to improve care quality, efficiency and the experience of patients and clinicians together – rather than trading one against another.

‍

Clinicians using Tandem have reported a 29% reduction in documentation time, alongside less administrative stress and greater presence with patients. For providers, recovering that time creates an opportunity to make better use of the clinical capacity they already have.

‍

And adoption has moved quickly. In just three years, Tandem has established offices in 14 European markets and reached more than 10,000 care organisations, including major providers such as Ramsay Santé, Humanitas and the NHS.

‍

Lukas Saari, CEO and co-founder of Tandem Health: “Europe’s health systems are under real strain and AI presents a tangible solution. But until now, European care providers have had to depend either on legacy solutions or AI solutions originally built for other markets that were retrofitted for Europe. We started Tandem to provide an alternative. Europe should be setting the standard for how AI enters healthcare, not adopting someone else’s. This funding lets us do that, bringing healthcare safely into the AI era, working in tandem with patients, clinicians, systems and nations. That’s how we’re taking care of healthcare.”

‍

Agate Freimane, General Partner at Norrsken VC: “Healthcare capacity is stretched across Europe, yet too much of it is still tied up in admin rather than care. Tandem is changing that by giving clinicians time back, improving quality and efficiency, and creating a better experience for both patients and clinicians. From day one, we’ve been impressed by the team’s speed of execution, the trust they’ve earned from clinicians and the scale of what they’re building. Reaching 10,000 care organisations across 14 markets in just three years is exceptional in healthcare. Tandem has the team, product and momentum to become one of Europe’s defining healthcare technology companies, and we’re excited to back them as they bring healthcare into the AI era.”

The Investment

‍

Following Tandem’s previously announced $100 million Series B, we’re joining its investor group alongside LG Technology Ventures and T.Capital, the strategic investment arm of Deutsche Telekom. The Series B was led by the Scaleup Europe Fund, managed by EQT, with participation from existing investors Kinnevik, Northzone, Amino Collective and Visionaries.

‍

The funding will help accelerate Tandem’s adoption across European healthcare and build out its AI-native Clinic Operating System.

‍

Over the past year, Tandem has grown from an AI Medical Scribe into a complete AI Medical Assistant. The next step extends beyond the consultation to support the wider clinic, including triage, scheduling and patient communications. The goal is straightforward: less time coordinating care, more time providing it.

‍

We’re proud to support the Tandem team as they work towards returning one billion hours to European clinicians – and build the AI-native operating system that European healthcare can run on. That’s how you take care of healthcare.
