Forests cover over 30% of the Earth’s land surface. They store carbon, protect biodiversity, and provide renewable resources. But the tools we use to manage them haven’t kept pace with the pressure we put on them – and we’re losing massive ecological and economic value as a result.

That’s why we’re excited to finally announce our portfolio company Terra Labs.

The Problem

Forestry is a $1 trillion industry employing 33 million people globally, and its economic, ecological and strategic importance is only rising, as forests take on a central role in climate, biodiversity, and the materials transition. And yet, it remains one of the last major industries barely touched by modern software. Today, forest management still relies heavily on manual field inventories and static management plans, often updated as rarely as once a decade. For large forest owners, this means operating across millions of hectares with a fragmented, outdated picture of what's actually there. Decisions about harvesting, capital allocation, and risk management are made on information that is months or years old. The result is slower decisions, missed threats, and enormous value left on the table.

The Solution

Terra Labs is building the infrastructure for Earth Intelligence – starting with forests. Founded in 2023 by Peder Stahle (former CPO at Kry and iZettle) and Adam von Corswant (former CTO, iZettle), Terra Labs has built an AI platform that turns raw satellite data into a continuously updated, high-precision picture of entire forest estates. The platform combines high-resolution imagery with AI models that detect change, flag risk, track net growth, and surface the insights that matter: storm damage, illegal logging, areas needing intervention. What previously required expensive field crews and months of analysis can now be delivered in near real-time, across millions of hectares.

Peder Stahle, CEO & Co-Founder, Terra Labs: "The forest industry manages enormous economic value, but too many decisions still rest on fragmented, outdated information. At the same time, there's more data about the world's resources today than ever before. Our AI models turn all that available data into concrete decision support — helping the industry make faster, better decisions at scale. Forestry is our first focus, but there's much more we can do from the same underlying data. We believe the next great AI company won't just be built for digital workflows, but for the physical economy: natural resources, infrastructure, industry."

Adam von Corswant, CTO & Co-Founder, Terra Labs: "Modern forestry demands detailed knowledge of every part of the forest — while simultaneously needing an up-to-date picture across vast areas. That combination has long been extremely difficult to achieve in practice. By pairing advanced remote sensing with AI, we now deliver high-precision analysis across millions of hectares of forest, and keep it continuously updated. Swedish forestry is a global leader, and it's only natural that the next generation of forest analytics is built here."

Terra Labs can already offer analysis covering all forest in Sweden.

The Traction

The commercial traction speaks for itself. Terra Labs has already partnered with all three of Sweden's major forest owner associations – Södra, Mellanskog, and Norra Skog – collectively managing around five million hectares through their members. In practice, this means Terra Labs can already offer analysis covering all forest in Sweden.

Lotta Lyrå, CEO, Södra: "As our AI partner, Terra Labs helps us map the forest with a precision and speed that simply wasn't possible before. When Storm Dave hit, we were able to quickly get a clear picture of how specific areas had been affected – using high-resolution satellite imagery. At Södra, we want to combine active forestry with high ambitions in conservation and continued growth. That requires technology that gives us better foundations for decisions. With this platform, both our members and our teams get stronger decision support in their day-to-day work with the forest."

Alexander Danielsson, Partner, Norrsken VC: "Forests cover more than 30% of the Earth's land surface and are critical to the climate, biodiversity, and global resource supply. Yet the industry is still working with tools that don't match that importance. Terra Labs combines deep AI expertise with a track record of building global, scalable technology platforms. We're convinced the team has everything it takes to lead the digital transformation of one of the world's most important – and long under-digitised – industries."

Terra Labs is backed by Norrsken VC alongside a group of Nordic tech founders and AI profiles, including Max Junestrand (Legora), Lukas Saari (Tandem Health), Alfred Wahlforss (Listen Labs), Peter Sarlin (Silo AI, Nest AI), Oliver Molander (Inception Fund), Jacob de Geer and Magnus Nilsson (iZettle), Hjalmar Winbladh (Rebtel, Epidemic Sound) and Patrick Söderlund (Dice).

Forests are one of our most valuable assets. It’s time we treat them that way.

We’re proud to have partnered with Terra Labs since their early days as they turn planetary-scale data into smarter decisions – building stronger forests and a more resilient planet for everyone.
